Remote Learning - February 2nd and 3rd |
Students will work at their own pace on assignments prepared in advance by their teachers. Each teacher has placed an Asynchornous Work folder in their Schoology classes. The folder explains what tasks the students are to complete for the remote learning day.
Completing assignments verifies your child’s participation, as required by the State to count as a remote learning day. There will be no live instruction; however, teachers will be available to answer questions.
Students will NOT have activities to complete for Advisory.
Students with disabilities will receive services and accommodations upon returning to school, before remote learning assignments are submitted.
School-Related Meetings
Winter Growth Assessment Testing Postponed |
Due to last week's school closures, the Winter administration of the Virginia Growth Assessments has been postponed.
At this time, we know the Reading Virginia Growth Assessment will be given the morning of Thursday, February 12th.
We are still determining the Math Growth Assessment date. As soon as it is solidified, we will communicate the information with all stakeholders.
School Counselor Appreciation Week
Our school counselors work hard to serve the students, staff, and families of Pocahontas every day! Their care is essential to student learning, growth, and achievement. February 2nd - February 6th is National School Counseling Week, and we want to show our counselors immense love and support! No matter the weather, we want our school counselors to know their efforts are appreciated.
Please complete the Pocahontas Counselor Appreciation Form to show our counselors some love. Responses will be shared with the counselors at the end of the week!
Ramadan Take Home Meals Available |
Henrico County Public Schools is offering take-home meals for students who are fasting during the school day in observation of Ramadan (Feb. 18-March 19). School Nutrition Services staff will prepare meals daily, and students will pick them up before dismissal.
Student accounts will be charged the same rate as their daily school lunch for each meal. Reduced- or free-meal programs still apply.
Meals must be ordered in advance using the following online forms:
If you have any questions, contact Jamie Holubar (registered dietitian with School Nutrition Services) at 804-261-9472 or Dana Whitney (director of School Nutrition Services) at 804-261-9462.
8th Grade Field Trip Details |
With continued time away from the school building, we have not been able to reschedule the 8th Grade field trip to the National Air and Space Museum.
Once we are all back together in the building and are able to revamp our instructional plans, testing calendar, and school activities calendar, we work on rescheduling the trip.
Details will be shared once they are solidified.
Gymnastics Tryout Information
Important: Whenever we return to school, Gymnastics tryouts will begin that afternoon. Students trying out for gymnastics should be prepared to start tryouts the afternoon of our first day back to school.
Any student trying out for the gymnastics team must have the FIVE required forms completed. Check out our Pocahontas Athletic website for access to the forms. Hard copies are also available in our main office.
Good luck to everyone trying out! We are looking forward to a great season!
PTA UPDATES
Happy New Year!
We hope that you all are well and prepared for the upcoming Snow/Ice Storm! Our PTA has been working behind the scenes to offer our students, families, and staff more community opportunities! While you are home next week, if you have a free moment, please take a moment to read our Virginia PTA's Legislative Priorities. Politics can get divisive, but fully funding Public Education should be a non-partisan issue! Our Delegates and Senators do want to hear what is important to their constituents!
SOUPER BOWL TIME
The PTA Hospitality Team is excited to host our Annual SOUPER BOWL on Friday, February 6th. Please use this Souper Bowl Sign up to make soup or chili for our Pocahontas Staff!
We would also love to have two extra volunteers to come help with the setup and serving of soup! Volunteers should arrive at 11 and all soup should be delivered to the school by 10:30.
7TH GRADE SILENT DISCO
After our very fun Hawk Hang-out for our 6th graders, we wanted to make sure to celebrate our 7th graders with a SILENT DISCO FOR SEVENTH! Wednesday February 18th right after school, the PTA is providing a fun dance event for our 7th grade students! We can't host this event without volunteer power!
Please use this sign-up to be a Parent Volunteer. Once the sign up is full for the Parent Volunteer opportunities, we will publish the 7th grade student sign up. Our PTA is very grateful for Wegmans, they will provide snacks and water for this event.
